FOLUR ETHIOPIA
The FOLUR Ethiopia project is one of the 27 country projects under the GEF 7 GLOBAL FOLUR impact program. The project aims to support transformation towards deforestation free coffee value chains and food systems in Oromia, Sidama, South Ethiopia, and Southwest Ethiopia. This will be achieved through an application of the Integrated Landscape Management (ILM) approach in coffee and agricultural production landscapes in the four regions of Oromia, Sidama, South Ethiopia, and Southwest Ethiopia. An inclusive value chain approach for the coffee sector will be promoted to facilitate a transition towards deforestation-free coffee jurisdictions, and farmers will be supported to adopt and implement good agricultural practices that increase productivity but also support healthy ecosystems, including soils and forests, in production landscapes.
FOLUR ETHIOPIA
On behalf of the FOLUR Ethiopia Project, I am pleased to
share this message with our partners, colleagues, and dedicated citizens
committed to change. This website is designed to serve as an interactive space
for collaboration, knowledge exchange, and collective progress toward
sustainable land use and resilient food systems.
The FOLUR Ethiopia Project is dedicated to restoring
degraded landscapes, strengthening smallholder livelihoods, and promoting
nature‑based solutions that sustain ecological integrity while benefiting
farmers, especially women. Our work integrates science, institutional capacity,
and community action to address challenges such as land degradation,
biodiversity loss, and aging coffee landscapes. We nurture strong partnerships
with government institutions at all levels, academia, research organizations,
private sector actors, and local communities to ensure mutual benefits for both
livelihoods and ecological systems.
We gratefully acknowledge the financial and technical
support provided by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and the United
Nations Development Programme (UNDP). Their contributions have been vital in
enabling us to advance innovative solutions, build institutional capacity, and
generate knowledge for sustainable landscape management and resilient livelihoods.
As Project Manager, I warmly invite all stakeholders and
citizens to engage with this platform and jointly contribute to national and
global goals for climate action, biodiversity conservation, and inclusive green
development.
